Molecular sieve 3A

Molecular sieves are materials with a three-dimensional structure of aluminosilicates that have a porous structure with regular and uniform holes. Zeolites can selectively adsorb different materials with micropores. These materials are classified in sizes from 3 to 10 angstroms based on the dimensions of the holes.

Molecular sieve 3A, obtained from ion exchange with potassium, has holes with a size of about 3 angstroms to adsorb molecules with a molecular diameter less than 3 angstroms, such as water molecules except unsaturated hydrocarbons and highly polar alcohols such as methanol and ethanol.
